USA Team Prepares for Worlds

Date: 9/1/2009

Author: D Hackbarth

The USA Team is starting to trickle in and begin to prepare for the World Championship regatta at the San Diego Yacht Club. The weather seems to be returing to the more normal morning marine layer, then clearing arout 10 AM with a moderate breeze in the afternoon with temps along the water in the high 70’s low 80’s. The temps last week were hot (high 90’s which is rare in SD). And it is bone dry. No rain, none ever! things dry FAST. The landscape outsie the city is bone dry and excellent fuel for wildfires on a mass scale.

Doug Broeker has been here the past week, enjoying being able to participate in this event and reportedly having a great time on and off the water. He has been prcticing almost every day. Brian Bissell tuned up over the weekend. Augie showed up in the boat lot on Monday. He has a new Persson (30888). There are 6 new ones being chartered for the event and then are for sale at $10,500 (with dolly and top cover). This is an extremely good price in today’s market. Rick Arneson has also purchased one. There are 4 left for sale.

There will be a measurement clinic on Thursday and weighing and measuring starts at weekend. The regatta starts on Monday.
