At the Don Q I had the opportunity to have a long conversation with Enrique Torruella, the National Secretary of SCIRA PR. He indicated that shipping will be available out of Elizabeth NJ, JAX and Ft Lauderdate. It does not sound like charters will be available as their entire fleet of about 12 new Snipes will be participating. You should ship your boat on June 14 or at the latest June 21 so it is available at the Club when the event starts. Containers can be rented for $2,500 round trip and can contain 6 boats, so shipping will cost about $ 400-500 per boat if you get a group together. He also indicated that doubles could be shipped by themselves for $ 1,500. They aretrying to get tripples for the same price. I advise that you contact them direct to confirm the specifics. It appears the boats will be back by July 19. No customs processing is required. The containers will be transported from San Juan to Ponce and then the trailers will be towed the last mile or so to the Club. They have 2 venues to sail in and both are right outside the club site, one in the ocean and one in a protected bay. Winds are expected to be in the mid teens (ks). Housing is avaailable in the range of $ 100 to $ 150 per night and a large group can possibly arrange for a villa which sleeps many at a lower price per person. The Hilton ($150) is about 2-3 miles from the Club and a new Ramada is in downtown Ponce. They are planning on providing transportation to the club. Sounds like it willl be a great event. Please paln to go and support the Snipe Class in Puerto Rico.
